APA Style (7th Edition) Guide: Generative AI

This guide will help you cite your documents in using the APA 7th ed. publication manula.

Generative AI

Ask your professor if Bard, Copilot, Chat GPT, LLaMA, etc. (large language model chatbots) or DALL-E, Diffusion, Midjourney, Stable, etc. (text-to-image AI) are allowed as appropriate sources for your paper.

In your reference entry, the developer is placed in the author position, the year of the version used in parentheses, the name of the chatbot in italic, the version number is placed in parentheses, the phrase large language model is placed in square brackets, and ends with the URL of the main page of the chatbot.

Example:

OpenAI. (2023). ChatGPT (Mar 14 version) [Large language model]. https://chat.openai.com/chat

When producing an image using an AI tool, you should cite the image in your text but it is not required to add it as a reference entry.
