Licensing Your Thesis For Reuse: Introduction

I'm done with my defense! Now what?

After you have completed and defended your thesis and obtained final approval, you must deposit the work in Scholar@UPRM, which is our campus's institutional repository. To learn more about our repository, click here.

Depositing your thesis is pretty simple. However, in this guide we want to focus on an aspect of the deposit process which deserves special attention.

When you deposit your thesis, you must choose among various options related to licenses which you may apply to your work. This has to do with what you wish to allow in terms of how other people can use your thesis. As the author of your thesis, this is your decision. Nevertheless, it is very important that you discuss it with your advisor.

The goal of this brief guide is to help you make an informed decision with regards to this issue, taking into account that your thesis is your most important work as a student. We encourage you to take a few minutes to carefully review the information presented here.

We also want to let you know that we have a guide that explains the process of depositing your thesis from beginning to end. You can access this guide by clicking here or clicking on the image on the right.

We encourage you to contact the GRIC if you have any questions about licenses of use, as well as any questions about the process of depositing your thesis. You can reach us by writing to We'll be glad to assist you.
